Magazine Cover Analysis 1.

Kick-Ass (Empire):

-The title of the magazine is covered by Aaron Johnson's head, it is covered because the magazine is recognisable enough to not have to show the whole title, and also it looks like blood splattering which shows the feature film of this edition (Kick-Ass) to be very violent.
-The title of the feature film Kick-Ass is the biggest font on the front cover which makes it stand out to the reader and make it instantly recognisable what this edition is going to be about, the actual words ‘Kick-Ass’ are slightly diagonalwhich adds a sense of drama about the film. It is also bright green which contrasts with the red and give it the feel of a comic book movie.
-The central figure of the poster is Aaron Johnson who is the main character in the movie, as he looks bloody and bruised  this shows that the film is very violent and that he’s in a superhero outfit shows it about superheroes. Also Aaron Johnson being on the front cover shows that they’re using his star appeal to sell the movie.
-The red colouring of the words ‘bloody’ and ‘brilliant’ make them stand out and also red has connotations of violence and danger.
At the footer of the page is the only non Kick-Ass related thing on the front cover, the title is in yellow makes it stand out and separates it from the other things on the cover.
-The comic-book like drawings in the background also give this movie the looks of a superhero movie.
-The insert just below Aaron Johnson’s glove has white splattered background, which makes it stand out and emphasises the feeling of a comic book. The writing in it is in capitols which make it stand out more as does the green colouring of the movies title.
-The mode of address on this particular magazine cover is informal and direct.
